Hello hello!
I am very, very, very excited to announce my NoQu project for this November. I'm using this project as a bit of a break from Roslyn (I've found that intentional breaks from stories are quite healthy for my process) during November. I will still work on it, but this project will be my primary focus.
Anyways, back to actually announcing the project.
The project is...
Murder on the Writerly Wreck
Genres:
Satire, comedy, contemporary Projected Word Count:
Likely no more than 70k for the first draft, but I'm an over-writer so we'll see how that goes. Goal:
Just to cut loose and have fun. I don't necessarily mean to finish the story during November, but I would like to get the NoQu word count goal.
A Very Rough Blurb: Ten writers are invited to beta-test a new writing program aboard the Shelly & Christie Express. A two week all-expense-paid escape aboard the most aesthetically pleasing, writer-friendly, literary-inspired train that money can buy? What could possibly go wrong! Well... actually, just one thing could, and and does, go wrong: Murder. Armed with the absurd and obscure knowledge that writers have, the remaining nine participants pool their knowledge and skill together to solve the mystery before - like so many of their favorite characters - they're each killed off. Two weeks, nine writers, a crew of six, and a dead body. This is exactly what everyone should have expected.
This book is going to be bursting with reader and especially writer humor. There will be plenty of references, easter eggs, satire, and chaos, though I imagine it'll all be pretty niche. But that's okay, because the current goal is just for me to have absolute unhinged fun with it.
I've been tossing it around in my mind for... my, two or three years now! I started to write it once but stopped to return my focus to Roslyn, and now I'm finally returning to it. And I've got a pretty good feeling about it.
While this story still comes with all the struggles of research, figuring out X thing, and all such writerly matters, I have a feeling that the humor and character chemistry will pull me through the first draft fairly well. I also have a friend who has agreed to be a sounding board and possibly an alpha for me throughout the month, which I greatly appreciate.
You can expect posts about MotWW (MOTWW? MWW? I haven't figured it out yet) in the coming month, and that may include the occasional excerpt and progress updates and the like.
Last thing before I conclude this post - the WIP page for MotWW is live! I'm ridiculously proud of it so please do go check it out. There's no songs or pictures on it because I haven't found any yet (and I don't imagine I will find any songs, honestly), but when/if I do I will add them to the page.
Alright, that's everything! Are you going to participate in NoQu? What's your project about? I would love to talk to you about it below.
